About Us

"Sound2Gather" is a community charitable music development support program under the Hong Kong Joint School Music Association Charity Fund Limited. We are committed to breaking down economic and social barriers by providing charitable music education to underprivileged students and the community. We firmly believe that music is priceless and that every individual, regardless of their background, should have the opportunity to receive music training and enjoy a rich musical experience.

Our Program

The "Sound2Gather" program is divided into multiple phases, designed to provide systematic resource coordination and comprehensive music education and opportunities:

    • Phase 1: Instrument Donation and Volunteer Teacher Recruitment

We collect unused musical instruments, repair and maintain them, and then lend them to students in need. At the same time, we recruit experienced volunteer teachers to provide music guidance to these students.

    • Phase 2: Support for Underprivileged Students from Low-Income Families

We actively seek and enroll students from low-income families, then allocate suitable instruments and courses to ensure they can fully unleash their potential.

     • Phase 3: Music Teaching Activities

We offer music courses, including individual and group lessons, to cultivate students' musical talents.

    • Phase 4: Orchestra and Ensemble Training

We organize orchestras and ensemble groups, giving students the opportunity to showcase their skills in music performances.

Our Vision

We aspire for "Sound2Gather" to become a hub for the popularization of music education, providing young people with the opportunity and hope to enjoy music. We believe that music can inspire and transform lives, and through this program, we aim to bring the beauty of music to a wider audience.

Due to resource limitations and storage constraints, the Instrument Donation / Recycling Program will temporarily suspend on-site collection services, as well as all types of keyboard instrument donations, including pianos and electronic keyboards, until further notice.

Additionally, all donated instruments must be in complete and fully functional condition. Please call to schedule an appointment prior to any donation. The Association reserves the right to refuse any unscheduled or unapproved donations.

----Instrument Donation / Recycling Program----

Our Association has long been seeking various resources to help provide music learning opportunities for students in need. Instruments are often the biggest barrier to starting their musical journey. Therefore, we collect various types of instruments and, after repair and cleaning, redistribute them to students in need.

If you or your child has stopped learning an instrument or have upgraded to a new one and no longer need the old instrument, you may donate it to us. We will refurbish it and pass it on to a student who needs it—meaningful and waste-free.

If a school plans to dispose of instruments, please contact us beforehand. We can send representatives to inspect the instruments and retrieve any repairable instruments or useful parts.

Last year, we successfully received dozens of Chinese and Western instruments, including flutes, trumpets, violins, violas, cellos, yangqins, pipas, and electric guitars, many of which were successfully donated to students or schools in need. The recipient organizations thank all donors for their generosity.

Handling of Donated Instruments

  1. Instruments that are complete and in working condition will be directly donated to applicants or organizations.

  2. Damaged instruments (note: we do not accept damaged electronic instruments, pianos, or string instruments): Please send photos to our staff for evaluation. Instruments deemed suitable for repair will be sent to technicians and donated after repair. Irreparable instruments will be dismantled for salvageable parts for future repairs.

  3. Due to manpower and resource limitations, we do not accept damaged electronic instruments, pianos, or string instruments. Please inspect your instrument carefully before donating to avoid resource waste.

  4. Instruments that remain in storage for a period without any donation requests may be sold through charity sales. All proceeds will be used for the repair and transportation costs of this program.

Note: Our storage is currently full. All piano/keyboard instruments are temporarily not accepted for storage. These instruments will only be accepted if a recipient has already been confirmed. Otherwise, donation requests may be postponed or declined.

If you have any questions regarding this program, please feel free to contact us.

Free Instrument Inspection and Repair Subsidy Program

The Joint School Music Association (JSMA) is committed to promoting music education in Hong Kong and continuously seeks resources to support the musical development of local schools.

In the past two years, the Association has sponsored free wind instrument inspection services for over 80 schools, covering more than 500 instruments.

We are now once again inviting professional instrument repair technicians to provide free inspections of selected woodwind and brass instruments for local primary and secondary schools. A detailed instrument condition report will also be provided to assist school bands, instrument classes, and students in the maintenance of their instruments, serving as a reference for future repair needs.

Schools interested in participating in the program only need to download and complete the application form below, and return it to us via fax or email for preliminary application. Upon acceptance, JSMA staff will contact the school to arrange the necessary administrative procedures and on-site inspection schedule.

Important Notes:

  • The inspection service is fully subsidized and free of charge.

  • Schools may decide whether to proceed with any repairs after the inspection.

  • JSMA can help arrange repair quotations and special offers through sponsored partners, upon school request.

  • All technicians are members of international professional instrument repair associations.

  • Priority will be given to registered JSMA school members and schools that have previously participated in JSMA activities.
